Career Paths

BW is not only working hard to bring a pipeline of talent into the industry but also to develop our current Workplace Experts to ensure they have all the tools and skills they need to flourish in their current roles and develop towards their future ones.

We run a Leadership Development programme which every employee at BW completes and have a number of internal and external courses running each year in additional to employees’ personal development plans.

Tomas Hollingsworth

Head of Technology

“Within my first month of being at BW I found myself on the first of five modules in leadership. This intensive, engaging course really enabled me to embrace the BW culture from both a professional and business level. My learning journey has been fully supported by the friendly HR team, my line manager and the business as a whole – even the board members have offered their time and knowledge. The opportunities for development are huge, from funding my ever-growing list of Microsoft examinations, through to my next challenge of an MBA.”

Miranda Samson

Environmental Manager

“I started at BW as a Document Controller but applied to move into the environmental team as that is where my real interests lie. I have now been an environmental manager for almost 3 years. To help me in my chosen field, BW sponsored me to take my BREEAM, WELL and LEED exams so far and I am planning to continue my ongoing learning in sustainability through IEMA membership. I am very fortunate, I have been mentored by my team, my line manager and also a board director. I have received an unbelievable amount of support from my colleagues along my journey. I am very much a ‘learn on the job’ type of person so the opportunity to do this with BW and study alongside whilst in my role has been invaluable for me. Since joining BW, I have been able to work out what direction in construction I wanted to take and have managed to find myself in my ideal role within a fantastic team.”

Vinay Kerai BSc (Hons) MRICS

Commercial Manager

“BW have put me through the two-year structured RICS APC course allowing me to become a Member of the RICS. During this time, I received support from my colleagues, line manager, HR and board directors who all took a personal interest in ensuring I had the tools to succeed. It is a really special feeling at BW when you know you can go to anyone within the business for support and mentorship, this is what sets us apart as a business and is the reason we are a great place to work! I have also been on the BW Leadership course in which I have learnt further soft skills and common good practice business techniques which have helped me to excel in my role. All of this has allowed me to build my confidence as I know that I work for a business which provides support and mentorship as it does and wants me to continually grow and be able to offer this experience to others.”

Kieran Pearce

Assistant Construction Manager

“When I joined BW’s Graduate Scheme, I had the opportunity to work within various different departments. The HR team really listened to what departments I wanted to experience, gave me recommendations and were incredibly flexible with how long I spent working in them, putting no limit on how long the rotation would last. This was a massive benefit of the graduate scheme as although I had a rough idea on what career path I wanted to take, I was curious how the business operated as a whole and wanted to remain open minded. This allowed me to learn as much as I could about each department in BW before making the final decision on choosing my career path.

Additionally, I have been sent a personal development leadership course. It was a great opportunity to rub shoulders with employees from all departments and levels of seniority. The course has provided me with a great set of skills in how to manage and lead a team which will most certainty benefit me in my career. My line manager and my director both have the best understanding of who I am, my capabilities, my strengths and also my weaknesses. They use these not to limit me but to push me and ensure I am constantly developing.”

Victoria Ward

Contracts Manager

“BW have always recognised my strengths and provided me with opportunities for growth that cater to these. From projects that allow me to focus on areas I’d like to develop, to providing a platform to pivot from Commercial Management to Contract Management I know they will ensure I reach my full potential.”
