Background & Job Purpose
The Estimating & Pre-Construction team provide a critically important function to the business being directly involved in securing future projects for the Operations Department. We are seeking to develop and strengthen this team by recruiting an Senior Estimator. Reporting directly to the Estimating Director you will be responsible for tendering a range of projects in close liaison with the Operations Department and, in particular, the Project Directors.
Job Scope
The successful candidate will tender potential projects for the Operational Department, liaising closely with the Senior Estimator and the Project Directors; duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Carry out a thorough review of all tender documents, liaising with the Senior Estimator, Estimating Assistant and Project Team regarding tender requirements and arranging Tender Strategy meetings with the Bid Team
- Maintain accurate records of all tender documentation throughout the tender process until handover to the Operations Team including review and distribution of Tender Addendums as appropriate
- Identify all competitors tendering the project
- Make arrangements to carry out a site visit for the whole Bid Team including all appropriate sub-contractors
- Ensure onsite discussions are held with Building Manager and appropriate photos are taken during the site visit
- Maintain liaison with the Professional Team throughout regarding queries and requests for information, establishing and discussing key tender issues from these discussions and from the scope of works
- Establish `alternative`/ `value engineering` opportunities for investigation and pricing and requirements for plant and statutory fees
- Liaise with Bid Team to agree proposed sub-contractors considerate of capacity, scope of work, reliability and competitiveness
- Meet and liaise with all sub-contractors to discuss project, innovation, alternatives, programme etc. and ensure all sub-contractors are provided with a fully compliant, comprehensive package. Maintain contact throughout the tender process ensuring maximum returns with a minimum of 4 quotes for each work package over £10,000.00
- Carry out detailed and thorough review of all sub-contractor returns ensuring like for like comparisons and highlighting specific exclusions / qualifications
- Organise and be actively involved in tender adjudication process with the entire Bid Team (including Board Director) and actively assist in ensuring a competitive tender is submitted including alterations, adds, omits etc.
- Prepare detailed Technical & Commercial Proposal submissions for every tender, maintaining liaison with the Bid Team and Estimating Assistant to ensure that submission proposals are prepared in good time
- When called for interview make arrangements to ensure all Bid Team members are available, liaising with the Project Director to agree presentation content. Remain actively involved in interview preparation and be influential during the presentation ensuring documentation is prepared and dry-runs held in good time
- Develop sound long term working relationships with all consultants endeavoring seeking to be `always looking for the next tender`
- Acknowledge the tender, book in the tender documents and check the documents for missing scope
- Mark up the enquiries to be sent out for quotations and ensure this is done quickly
- Select suitable subcontractors for the works taking into consideration volume of work and location
- Input the BoQ onto Causeway and set up the job ready to price
- Contact the key supply chain contractors to discuss the project and any technical issues
- Carry out bulk measure checks and pick up any scope missing from the BoQ and ensure this is incorporated into the price
- Visit site and carry out a site report summary of access/egress, locations for site establishment and understand logistically how the project will be run
- Distribute any addendum information to the relevant sub-contractors
- Raise tender queries to the consultants where necessary
- Compile the prelims book with input from the production team on suitable staffing levels
- Analyse quotations and prepare a summary report of all the quotations received
- Evaluate the H&S obligations and ensure we price the job accordingly
- Settle the tender with the Senior Estimator/ Commercial Director
- Produce a list of tender clarifications for submission
- Finalise the price and submit the tender on time

- You must be able to handle multiple activities and work in a fast paced environment, often under pressure and to strict deadlines

- Experience of single stage tendering
