Transforming an international law firm

Watson Farley & Williams are a law firm with a leading market position in international finance and investment, maritime and energy, but also specialising in natural resources, transport, real estate and technology.

Watson, Farley & Williams were looking to refurbish their existing offices, located on Appold Street in the heart of the capital’s financial centre, to provide first class workplace design and facilities for their London based staff totalling nearly 300.

‘Business as Usual’ constraints

By re-designing and refurbishing the existing space, together with the expansion of their lease, meant they were able to add restaurant, conference, audio visual and video conference facilities to improve not only the staff core business operations areas but also the client facilities.

The works were required to be undertaken whilst maintaining business as usual therefore BW were required to develop a programme and construction strategy that caused the minimum amount of disruption in the shortest possible period.

Appreciation of the client’s business needs, which would change on a regular basis, resulted in changes in priority, so co-ordination and flexibility of working hours was necessary to ensure the works were delivered on time.

Fit-Out Facts

  • Completion of the works within a tight timescale, and ‘business as usual’ client operations
  • Lack of on-site space for logistics associated with storage of materials and welfare facilities meant off site facilities and consolidations accommodation were required.
  • Cat B refurbishment in occupation
  • 5 floors including high quality reception, café, client facing meeting suite, conference facilities and refurbishment of cellular offices through a phased approach to maintain operations
  • Kitchen facilities for the building
