BW: Workplace Experts completes Canary Wharf workplace transformation for global management consulting firm

1st November 2023

BW: Workplace Experts has completed the transformation of a workplace located at 25 North Colonnade in Canary Wharf, London, for a global management consulting firm. Designed to enhance employee experience, the new workspace fosters a sense of community and collaboration.

The scheme was delivered through a design and build (D&B) route and involved the Category B fit-out of 50,000 sq. ft. across 2.5 floors to accommodate the global management consulting firm’s 600 employees.

The building’s design is focused on encouraging employees to come together, creating meeting points, spaces to work in a variety of group sizes and opportunities for chance encounters and social interaction. In total, there are over ten types of meeting spaces including focus rooms and phone booths, huge LED screens, wellness rooms for relaxation and two large terraces.

The main floor houses an extensive work lounge with a large LED screen and the main reception, with dramatic lighting that draws you into the space. A bespoke stairwell connects the different levels and includes inbuilt seating, tiled columns and planters. Sinuous timber ceiling fins and curved motifs then guide visitors and staff through the floors. This is also where the front-of-house IT hub, IT areas and print rooms are located.

The main workspace on the upper level includes open-plan workspace with tea point and a meeting suite surrounding the upper level of the new staircase.

On the half floor, a secondary café/bar adjoins a large multi-purpose room with moveable dividers and a 4m x 3m AV wall. There is an open workspace with tea point and print area, the wellness room and a meeting room suite.

The fit-out was undertaken in a building with occupiers on other floors, so acoustics were a major consideration for the team to minimise disruption to those businesses. A dedicated acoustic consultant, sound monitoring and the use of soft padded routes were used to manage this carefully.

This project also re-uses large quantities of equipment, furniture and lighting from the client’s former office, also in Canary Wharf, currently under refurbishment.

Paul Kavanagh, Operations Director at BW: Workplace Experts, commented:

“This project not only exudes quality while maximising re-use and recycling, therefore focusing on sustainability, but is also a great example of how projects can be sensitively undertaken in a building with neighbouring occupiers and delivered ‘Defect Free @ Practical Completion’. This new, inclusively designed workspace will foster a strong, connected community and encourage the creative, team-oriented problem solving for which this global management consulting firm is renowned.”
